DART increases year-round Sussex County bus service with two beach routes

Delaware Transit Corporation

Using DART to get to Delaware beaches outside the summer season is now easier.

Two popular DART beach bus routes began year-round service this week.

Delaware Transit Corporation spokesperson Julie Theyerl says Routes 201 and 204 remain fully up and running.

“The Route 201 is the one that goes from Lewes Park & Ride to Rehoboth Park & Ride and to the Boardwalk and the other is from Lewes Park & Ride to the Town of Lewes. And they both run every 30 minutes, so frequent service. And it’s Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m,” said Theyerl.

The League of Women Voters of Sussex County recently wrote a letter to DelDOT Sec. Jennifer Cohan calling transit in Sussex County inadequate.

Theyerl says public discontent certainly contributed to making the beach bus routes year-round.

She says residents rely on the service to get to and from work at the beaches, like to the Tanger Outlets, or even connect with routes taking them to jobs in Georgetown and far western Sussex.

“It’s important to have those mobility options and the connection that can be made to the western side of the County,” said Theyerl.

The fares are $2 per zone for a one-way trip and $4.20 per zone for a daily pass.  There’s also an $18 7-day pass and $65 dollars for a 30-day pass.
