Hotel Du Pont's Green Room staying open a little longer

There’s still time to dine at the Hotel Du Pont’s iconic Green Room in Wilmington.

The restaurant was slated to close January 1 for major renovations to the space planned by its owner, the Buccini/Pollin Group.

But Buccini/Pollin Group co-founder and president Dave Pollin says that date has been pushed back.

“We have had a number of different organizations ask for us to keep the restaurant open for a few more days," said Pollin. "It looks like we’ll stay open through January 17 to accommodate peoples’ hopes of getting in for one more Green Room experience.”

Pollin says the space will be transformed into a French-themed restaurant. And they're bringing in a new chef, Tyler Akin, to transform the food.

“So we still are looking at French cuisine - kind of new-school French brasserie-style foods," said Akin. "And we’re going to be looking to the south of France and the north of Africa for influences on that menu.”

It's hoped that the new and improved restuarant will re-open in time for Mother's Day. The name of the new restaurant has not yet been unveiled.
