Changes are coming to the Hotel Du Pont’s famed Green Room in Wilmington.
After over 100 years of service, the restaurant’s last day before undergoing substantial renovations is Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
The Buccini/Pollin Group now owns the Hotel Du Pont and is behind the re-imaging of the Green Room.
The Group’s co-founder and president Dave Pollin says they consulted extensively with the community and loyal Green Room diners before deciding to make changes, “They’re telling us by their actions that the Green Room is not as relevant to them today as it has been in the past. I think there’s really three kinds of macro things that are changing. And the first one is - the world has really changed; people dine out a lot more.”
Pollin adds that people eating out today tend to be younger and not as formal as the previous generation. He also points out the hotel world is changing. People staying at the Hotel Du Pont and eating in the Green Room want entertainment and experiential dining, as well as craft cocktails - hence the upcoming changes.
Pollin says interim dining will be set up after the Green Room closes, “We’re going to have an interim dining room set up in the Brandywine Room. And for those people who know the Hotel Du Pont, this is a beautiful, rich, wood-paneled dining area. It used to be a restaurant back in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s. And we’ve added some really beautiful artwork and we’ve upgraded the space.”
Pollin says the Brandywine Room will feel just as delightful and elegant as the Green Room.
Pollin adds that more detail about the Green Room renovations will be revealed in the coming weeks.
