Arts Playlist: Ladybug Music Festival moves online

The Ladybug Music Festival is doing something different this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It’s going virtual.

Gable Music Ventures is taking the all-female festival, which started in Wilmington in 2012 and then added a second event in Milford in 2018, completely online.

Over 50 artists are slated to perform over the two days - June 29 and 30.  The line-up includes national acts like Vanessa Carlton, KT Tunstall, Lauren Ruth Ward, Gina Chavez and America’s Got Talent alum - Kechi and Evie Clair.

And Gable Music Ventures CEO Gayle Dillman Dillman says a Wilmington native will host the event.

“We are excited that we have our host Jamila Mustafa, who is an MTV and BET host of a couple of different shows; she is going to be our host for Ladybug. And we’re going to have probably close to 50 artists performing, as well as we’re going to have some cooking demonstrations and you’ll be able to learn how to make a couple of different cocktail drinks.”

Dillman adds says they hope to raise some money through the two-day event.

"We are going to be asking for a $20 donation that will go to help the downtown businesses in Wilmington (and Milford), as well as a national organization called Sweet Relief (Musicians Fund). And they offer third-party payments to musicians or people in the industry who are having trouble paying their bills.”

The donation will give people an non-transferable link to the livestream of the event.

Music begins each day online at 5 o’clock with more information on the schedule available at the festival's website.
