COVID-19 cases rise by more than a hundred as state enters Phase 1 of reopening

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Delaware’s known cases of COVID-19 grew by more than a hundred Monday as the state enters Phase 1 of its formal reopening plan.

State health officials reported two new deaths, bringing the state’s death toll since the pandemic began to 368.

The latest victims were male New Castle County residents aged 30 and 77. Both had underlying health conditions.

New positive cases were up 107 Monday.  The total since March 11th now tops 9,600.  The 5-day average of percent testing positive was down slightly as of Sunday, while the 5-day average of new cases rose.

But hospitalizations continue to decrease, down one to 159, with 32 people critically ill. And Delawareans continue to recover. Officials reported 87 additional recoveries Monday — for a total so far of 5,353.

The state is also promoting three drive-through saliva-based community testing events over the next few days.

Tuesday's will be at Beacon Middle School in Lewes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday’s will be at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Dover from 1 to 5 p.m., and Thursday’s will be at the Bridgeville Fire Company from 10 p.m. to 2 p.m..
