Delaware Public Media

New Delaware unemployment claims have now reached six figures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State Labor Department says it received 4,651 first-time unemployment claims last week pushing the total number of initial claims filed in Delaware since March 15th over 100 thousand.

But claims last week were down more than 900 from the previous week when there was a small spike in claims after several weekly declines.

The State Labor Department adds that it has paid seventy-eight percent of claims filed during pandemic. Benefits paid total nearly 282 million dollars  - including just over 47 million paid last week alone.
