Delaware Electric Cooperative (DEC) customers are about to get a break on their bills.
Starting Monday, June 1, 2020, rates for those served by the Delaware Electric Co-Op in Harrington fall by four percent.
“It’s always great news when you can lower the cost of power for your customers and members. Delaware Electric Cooperative is owned by their members so we work extremely hard to maximize the value and minimize the cost and make sure we provide that service,” said DEC President and CEO Bill Andrew.
He notes that the change is not connected to the coronavirus pandemic.
“This rate decrease that the Board has just approved, is a rate decrease that we had planned well before the COVID-19 crisis struck the area," said Andrew. "It’s basically a long-term business (contract) and we were working on long-term contracts trying to get rid of some and trying to work with some that were better.”
Andrew says the decrease will save the average family using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, $5 per month or $60 per year.
DEC membership as a whole will save a total of $7 million per year.
