Modest increase in known cases as hospitalizations decrease Thursday

Delaware sees another day of lower growth in COVID-19 cases.

State health officials announced 8 more deaths related to the coronavirus Thursday, bringing the total in Delaware to 152.

But the state also reports only 70 new cases – after adding just 80 on Wednesday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Delaware is now at 4,734

 

The 8 fatalities announced Thursday ranged in age from 65 to 95. Four were Sussex County residents, three were from New Castle County and one was from Kent County. Six of the victims had underlying health conditions and seven were long-term care facility residents. (6 of the state's 152 deaths have been residents at long-term care facilities

The virus is continuing to spread quickest in Sussex County – which Gov. Carney deemed a “hot spot” earlier this week. 47 new cases were announced there for a total of 2,216.  That remains the highest among the state’s three counties 

New Castle County added 17 cases Thusday, while 16 more were reported in Kent County.

There is also good news on current hospitalizations, which declined for a second straight day.  That number stands at 296, down 30 from a day ago. ^5 people are critically ill.

And 1,275 people are now considered recovered, up 102 from Wednesday.
