Protesters gathered and chanted along Philadelphia Pike near the Delaware State Police Troop 1 starting at noon Saturday.
Candidate for state representative Keith James, who helped organize a recent protest in Wilmington, led chants and spoke. He directed protesters to sign petitions and put pressure on local legislators. He encouraged them to withdraw their spending from businesses that do not support black lives.
"If they don't give us justice now," he said, "we'll continue to protest each and every day."
Former candidate for U.S. Senate in Delaware Kerri Evelyn Harris also spoke about issues of racial justice beyond police violence. She emphasized the need for class solidarity and a diverse coalition of allies to continue saying, "Black lives matter."
Protesters kneeled in honor of George Floyd, who was killed at the hands of Minneapolis police.
Black Lives Matter Wilmington leader Mahkieb Booker addressed white protesters. He told them once they leave, he and other protesters will "still be Black." He told them to continue the momentum and "break white silence," which he said "breeds violence."
Tatzyahna Dumorrocco addressed the crowd.
