Diocese of Wilmington's Catholic Cemeteries announce new way to access grave locator

Catholic Diocese of Wilmington
Delaware residents with loved ones buried in three First State cemeteries will soon have a new and improved app to find their graves.

It will soon be easier for families of loved ones buried in one of three Catholic cemeteries in the First State to find their graves.

The Diocese of Wilmington’s Catholic Cemeteries, Inc., is upgrading its grave locating mobile app at the end of this month.

“Well, for the last several years, we’ve had an online program through Google Play Store and the Apple App Store and the vendor has changed the way that’s accessed. Those apps will no longer be licensed. So we have to go through the website; it provides the same access - only a different venue,” said Mark Christian, executive director of Catholic Charities, Inc. of the Diocese of Wilmington.

He explains the grave locator app is definitely necessary.

“Basically ,we have folks all the time that are looking for where relatives are buried in any of our three cemeteries. So the GPS feature, while not 100% accurate, it gets you within about thirty feet of the actual grave,” said Christian.

Christian says app users can also search for their loved ones and post to an interactive page to capture the personal histories of those laid to rest in Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington, All Saints Cemetery in Millcreek and Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro.

The new app is free and available for download here.
