Enlighten Me: Wilmington ad agency produces short film showing "emptiness" during COVID-19

A new short film by a Wilmington ad agency encourages Delawareans to show resolve and see a better future beyond the coronavirus pandemic.

The film is called “Greater Wilmington, April 2020 - See Togetherness, See Resolve, See the Future.” It was produced by NuPOINT.

NuPOINT’s managing director Jim Donahue says the idea for the film came from agency employees talking about how they could record this moment in history.

“We discussed a few ideas," said Donahue. "And what we quickly came to realize is that when you think of community you tend to think of lots of gatherings of hundreds - even thousands of  people - or sometimes a small family gathering. And what was missing of course in these days were all of those public gatherings.”

Donahue explains that conveying the breadth of the situation was difficult standing on the ground. So they decided to take the viewer up, using drones to shoot the three minute film.

NuPoint's managing partner Matt Urban managed the project and says the film was shot over a four-day time span.

“We shot Easter weekend. Jim and I worked together on a list of what we thought were the most appropriate locations where we would most likely see the stark emptiness (that I was speaking about), whittled down to a list of maybe 20 to 25 different spots. And then we drove around,” said Urban.

Sites featured include Christiana Mall, Frawley Stadium, downtown Wilmington, various parks, the Riverfront and a nearly empty Delaware Memorial Bridge.
