Blue Rocks advance to Carolina League championship series

The Blue Rocks’ are headed to the Mills Cup Carolina League Championship series for the first time since 2004. 

The Rocks’ completed a sweep of the best of three Northern Division Championship series with a 4-3 win over Lynchburg Friday night at Frawley Stadium.

Shortstop Jack Lopez’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 8th inning broke a 2-2 tie.  The Hillcats scored once in the ninth, but left the potential tying run stranded at second. 

The Blue Rocks will face Myrtle Beach in the Mills Cup final.  Myrtle Beach captured the Southern Division championship with a 4-3 victory over Winston-Salem Friday night.

The best of five series between the Rocks and Pelicans opens Sunday in Wilmington.

Wilmington is seeking its first Mills Cup Carolina League title since 1999.
