The Wilmington Blue Rocks make their first post-season appearance since 2012 Wednesday night.
The Blue Rocks are in Virginia to face the Lynchburg Hillcats in game one of the best of three Northern Division Championship series.
The Rocks are in the playoffs after winning the first half Northern Division crown with a 38-32 record. They slumped in the season’s second half, going 24-45 with losses in 7 of their final 10 games.
Wilmington was 7-13 against the Hillcats during the regular season and just 2-8 in Lynchburg.
Game 2, and if needed, Game 3 of the series will be in Wilmington Thursday and Friday. The series winner heads to the Mills Cup Carolina League title series to face the survivor of the Southern Division final between Myrtle Beach and Winston-Salem.
The Blue Rocks haven’t won the Mills Cup since 1999.
