Tests reveal contamination in six Blades-area private wells

More tests from the Environmental Protection Agency have revealed contamination in homeowner water supplied by private wells in the Blades area

The state announced Tuesday evening three additional private wells tested on Feb. 19 have perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) above the EPA’s health advisory of 70 parts per trillion.

The EPA has sampled 44 private wells in the Blades area so far and six of the now-39 returned tests are contaminated. Officials have notified the property owners.

Officials from Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control have worked with the EPA to give those residents individual carbon filtration systems for their sinks to filter out the compounds.

One additional private well that was close to the EPA’s health advisory level has also received a filtration system.

Area residents can still get water from the Blades Town Hall if they need it.
