Delaware’s Department of Agriculture is putting out the call for a veteran who doesn’t mind entering hostile territory.
The state wants to enlist a vet for its Planting Hope Apiary project.
The selected veteran will get a bootcamp in beekeeping. He or she will receive training and mentoring, beehive materials, protective gear, and bees to help establish hives.
The veteran will be responsible for overseeing two hives at the Blackbird State Forest near Townsend. Duties include tactical extractions of honey.
The Planting Hope Apiary project is the state’s way to thank veterans by helping them get involved in beekeeping.
Bees benefit the state’s agriculture industry by pollinating hundreds of types of fruits and vegetables.
Veterans of all branches of the armed forces are welcome to apply through December 23.
All that's necessary to apply is a demonstrated commitment to beekeeping.
Interested veterans can submit a one-page summary detailing their interest in beekeeping and their thoughts about developing a pollination and bee products business, as well as three references and contact information.
