Hospitalizations fall for third consecutive day as state adds 184 COVID-19 cases

State health officials announced seven more deaths related to the coronavirus Friday, bringing the total in Delaware to 159.

The state also reports 184 new cases – after adding just 70 on Thursday. 

There have been 4,918 COVID-19 cases confirmed in Delaware to date.

The seven deaths announced Friday were of individuals who ranged in age from 30 to 98. Four were Sussex County residents, two were from New Castle County, and one was from Kent County. Six had underlying health conditions. Five were residents of long-term care facilities.

The virus is spreading fastest in Sussex County. But New Castle County added the most cases Friday — bringing its total to 1,829. Sussex County still leads in total number of cases — with 2,292 as of Friday.

Fourteen more cases were reported in Kent County, bringing its total to 773.

Current hospitalizations have declined for a third straight day. That number stands at 281– down 15 from a day ago. Of those hospitalized, 58 are critically ill. And 1,403 people are now considered recovered, up 128 from Thursday. 

The Department of Correction announced another inmate death related to the virus Thursday. So far 72 offenders, 40 staff members and 3 contractors in the DOC system have tested positive. More than 200 inmates have been tested — many of them asymptomatic.
