8 new COVID-19 deaths in Delaware as cases surge in Sussex County

Delaware’s COVID-19 death toll rises to 120 Sunday as total cases statewide surpass the 4,000 mark.

And Sussex County now has the most cases in the First State.

State health officials report 8 new fatalities connected to the virus Sunday – along with 458 new cases.

The total lab-confirmed cases in the state since March 11th is  4,034.

311 of the new cases are in Sussex County, which jumped past New Castle County for most in the First State. Sussex County now has 1,801 cases compared to 1,599 in New Castle County despite having about half the population of New Castle County..

The current hospitalizations in Delaware rose by 17 to 317 Sunday.

The number of people considered recovered has now reached 911 – up 102 from Saturday.

The Department of Correction announced Sunday another inmate from Vaughn prison, 79 year-old Robert Francisco, has died from COPD and COVID-19. 

Another 3 Vaughn inmates and two correctional officers there have also tested positive – along with another inmate at Sussex Community Corrections Center in Georgetown.
