Development Director

Delaware Public Media’s Development Director ensures that DPM meets annual revenue goals. This individual leads all fundraising campaigns and communications and makes sure activities are in alignment with DPM’s mission, bylaws, goals, and policies. The Development Director works closely with station management and staff to identify funding priorities and to ensure proper compliance with funding sources.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead development and fundraising plan
  • Coordinate all fundraising campaigns, on-air, online and external.
  • Create development activities/ events timeline and calendar
  • Maintain and develop foundation relationships, grant applications, execution and reporting. 
  • Lead donor communications
  • Develop and manage donor events and relationships
  • Lead development of fundraising messaging, related social media planning, donor communications, creation of media for membership drives and other campaigns.
  • Major input to development of annual report
  • Coordinate and lead a development/fundraising a fundraising plan the ensures that revenue generated is at minimum 300% of fundraising and development expense.
  • Work with the Underwriting Sales team when indicated to assist with development of underwriting relationships.
  • Must provide own transportation and be willing to travel as necessary.

Education and Experience

  • College degree is preferred, but not required.
  • At least 4 years of proven non-profit development experience. 
  • Strong ability to create and execute donor strategy and implement fundraising best practices.
  • Experience with social media campaigns.
  • Strong annual report, newsletter, and grant writing skills.
  • Ability to develop accurate and timely grant reports and fulfill other grant obligations.
  • Highly self-motivated, with strong project management skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to work closely and professionally with a wide range of constituents, including staff, board members, external partners and donors/prospects.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail,
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, to set and adjust priorities, and work under pressure while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet concurrent deadlines, organize time and priorities, and to do so in collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Cultivate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
  • Experience delegating responsibility and ensure accountability.
  • Ability to train and coordinate volunteers.
  • Willingness and availability to work diverse schedules, including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • A self-starter is who able to be motivated in a remote setting.

Underwriting Sales Specialist

Delaware Public Media is Delaware’s only NPR affiliate, reporting on news and stories of interest to Delawareans and providing the best of independent news and journalism from national sources like NPR and American Public Media. Headquartered on the campus of Delaware State University and working statewide, we are a small local team that brings the same robust news coverage as larger markets.

We are seeking a full-time business-to-business direct sales professional to join our team. This is a specialized radio & digital media sales position. Prior media sales experience is required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain account lists and solicit new business through prospecting and cold calling.
  • Service and grow existing assigned accounts/budgets.
  • Identify clients’ advertising needs; develop and present customized solutions. Understand copy development for non-commercial underwriting while working to coordinate with digital ads.
  • Prepare sales/marketing plans, sales literature, and advertising proposals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients by providing top quality service. Investigate and resolve customer problems.
  • Communicate with other departments to assure quality service in placing orders and arranging related ancillary activities.
  • Relentlessly work to develop new business.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required. Higher education preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in media or similar direct business-to-business sales required.
  • Non-profit involvement as staff or volunteer is a plus.
  • Above average writing skills.
  • Must provide own transportation.
