COVID-19 cases in Delaware top 2,000 with three additional deaths

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

State health officials report 3 more COVID-19 related deaths and 88 new cases Wednesday.

The death toll in Delaware is now at 46 after each county saw a fatality Wednesday.

The victims were an 83-year-old Sussex County woman, a 53-year-old Kent County woman and 46-year-old New Castle County man.  All three had been hospitalized and the Sussex County woman was a long-term care resident.

State health officials now say 28 of Delaware's COVID-19 related deaths involved long-term care facility residents. That includes 11 at the Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home in Ogletown, 7 at Genesis Healthcare's Milford Center and 5 at the Atlantic Shores Rehabilitation and Health Center in Millsboro.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases since March 11 surpassed 2,000 yesterday – rising to 2,014.

But current hospitalizations in Delaware dipped – falling to 208 from the 217 reported Tuesday.  48 people are considered critically ill.

And 354 Delawareans are considered recovered from COVID-19 - up from 319 on Tuesday.

The state also reports 11,088 people have tested negative for the virus to date.
