A Delaware State University student is dead after a shooting at a Dover park during a large party.

Dover Police say the shooting happened Sunday night at Schutte Park where a party of 300-to-500 people was taking place.

20-year-old Devin Wright was shot in the head during what police called "a shootout betwen multiple suspects" at the party. He was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 22-year-old man was also injured in the shooting as he was shot in his shoulder and hand. He was also treated at the hospital.

Police responded to a report of shots fired shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the park, and that’s where they found Wright and the other man with their wounds.

Police are still investigating, and ask anyone with information to contact Dover Police or Delaware Crime Stoppers.

Most attending the party were identified as DSU students by police

Delaware Public Media reached out to Delaware State University for a response to the incident, but the school has not responded yet.

But DSU spokesman Carlos Holmes told the News Journal in a statement that the "university community is profoundly saddened and troubled by the tragic death of Devin Wright and the event surrounding his death."
