The second of two Community Preparedness Workshops for seniors and people with disabilities will in Dover next month.

This latest DEMA-hosted Community Preparedness Workshop is March 10, 2020 at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

And DEMA community relations coordinator Jeff Sands reminds people that while these events are important for seniors or individuals with a disability, others should also consider attending,

“It’s important for the caregivers and the support networks to get involved as well," said Sands. Disaster preparedness is something that is important for everybody, not just seniors and people with disabilities. But there are some additional considerations.”

Sands adds that a variety of agencies are involved to help DEMA improve readiness for emergencies and disasters.“

From the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office to Delaware Assistive Technologies Initiative, the Kent County Department of Public Safety, Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities and others….they’re going to bring some of their resources with them and give different presentations and give seniors and people with disabilities some tools in their toolbox to help for everyday and major disasters,” Sands said,

Sands says seniors and people with disabilities often require more time to move during an emergency or disaster and may require special care to evacuate.

You can register for the March 10th workshop here.
