Free admission to Delaware Children's Museum for "529 Day" Wednesday

The Delaware College Investment Plan or 529 Plan, is making this Wednesday - May 29th - “529 Day.” ";s:

The Delaware College Investment Plan (529 Plan) and the State Treasurer’s Office are offering free admission to the Delaware Children’s Museum this week.


The Delaware Children’s Museum is the state’s only children’s museum, offering inclusive, educational and entertaining programming.

And on “529 Day” Wednesday, it offers free admission with an assist from the Delaware College Investment Plan and State Treasurer Colleen Davis,

“The 529 Plan started in Delaware in actually 1998. And we’ve been making attempts at really promoting this Plan for college education and career readiness.”

Davis says the 529 Plan is managed by Fidelity Investments and the savings accounts can help young people thrive in the future, "It’s our hope that kids come out and have a good time and learn a little bit more, along with their parents and loved ones about what the 529 Plan can do to help them prepare for college financially.”

Davis says the savings plan can be used for educational expenses ranging from tuition to books.


She says Delaware’s 529 Plan currently has over $625 million in assets through more than 22,000-funded accounts.

Davis says 529’s are a very flexible way for people to set it aside money their children and grandchildren’s education.

The Children’s Museum is open Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with admission charges being waived throughout the day.
