DART's daily beach bus service resumes next week

DART First State
The upcoming Memorial Day weekend means more people will start making their way to Delaware’s beach towns.";

The busy summer tourism season begins in just over a week with Memorial Day, and DART is ramping up its related service.

DART’s daily beach bus service returns this Monday, May 20.

There is service in and around Delaware’s resort areas year-round, but the Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC) amps up that service in the summer to handle the increase in ridership:

“We have extra routes out there and a lot more trips and more frequencies. Our span of hours goes early morning to late night, almost till 3 a.m,” said Julie Theyerl, a spokeswoman for the DTC.

"It serves the tourists, the residents, the employees - certainly the bar crowd - there are routes that service Ocean City, Maryland, Dewey Beach and they go till late night.”

Theyerl says this increased summer service runs through September 8.

DART is also reminding commuters that recent enhancements made to the Lewes Transit Center also debut Monday.

“Each year we just keep adding on to it," said Theyerl. "This year, we’ve built a passenger facility, where there - it’s an indoor waiting area, air conditioned, there are restrooms, ticket sales - we’ll have LCD large monitors that show the real-time information for buses, as well as some advertising and some some just general information.”

Theyerl encourages visitors and residents to download the DART Transit app - to expedite their travel experience this summer.
