As Texas copes with the unprecedented flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, Dover International Speedway and Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is among those locally collecting supplies to aid relief efforts.
Among the recommended donation requests are baby items, personal hygiene items, non-perishables, including canned goods and water, pet supplies and cleaning materials.
Officials say donations of clothing are NOT recommended.
Items can be dropped off at the Dover International Speedway ticket office at 1131 N. Dupont Highway in Dover between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. All items will then be taken to Harbor Transport in Federalsburg, Maryland, where they will be placed on a tractor trailer bound for the Gulf Coast.
As of Friday, Sept. 1, Hurricane Harvey has been blamed for at least three dozen deaths, displaced more than 30,000 residents and damaged more than 90,000 homes in Texas.
