Salvation Army's annual "Red Kettle Campaign" already underway

The Salvation Army’s annual “Red Kettle Campaign” looks different in 2020 as it adapts to challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic.";s:3:

The Salvation Army’s annual “Red Kettle Campaign” is already underway.

The Salvation Army started its holiday fundraising effort early in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

And The Salvation Army of Delaware’s state coordinator Major Timothy Sheehan says that decision and their 2020 theme, “Rescue Christmas,” reflect the urgency of this year’s effort.

“Given the year that we’re having here in 2020 with the pandemic, we have seen a tremendous increase in assistance requests for the basics,” Sheehan said.

Sheehan notes that nationwide the Salvation Army estimates a 155% increase in the number of people needing assistance this season.

He adds that due to the coronavirus and the nation’s coin shortage - there’s fewer bell ringers in front of stores, and those taking donations will wear face masks and kettles will be cleaned frequently.

Apple Pay and Google Pay will also be available at the red kettles. And contributions are being accepted online.

Last year, the Salvation Army collected $500,000 during its “Red Kettle Campaign” in Delaware.
