Wesley College returns to Div. III football tourney for 11th straight year

Wesley College’s football team is headed NCAA Division III playoffs for an 11th straight year.

The Wolverines earned one of six available at-large bids and will host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) champ Framingham State this Saturday in Dover.

Wesley had to wait on an at-large invite after failing to secure the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title and its automatic berth.  The Wolverines finished tied for the NJAC crown with Salisbury, but Salisbury earned the title by virtue of its win over Wesley last week in Dover.

Wesley and Framingham have identical 9-1 records and both feature prolific offenses.  The Wolverines average 49 points per game while the Rams post 39 per contest.

The two teams have met once before - with Wesley putting up a 55-0 win over Framingham back in 1995.

Should Wesley get by the Rams,  they face a potentially difficult road to the Stagg Bowl  and a shot at the Div. III title.  They could face undefeated Johns Hopkins in the second round and top ranked Mount Union in the quarterfinals.
