Wesley College’s football team did what it could to secure an 11th straight appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
The 12th ranked Wolverines breezed past William Patterson in its regular season finale 63-0.
Quarterback Joe Callahan needed just one half to throw for 363 yards and 7 touchdowns, lifting Wesley to 9-1 this season.
But hopes of winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and its automatic bid to the 32-team NCAA tournament fell through when Salisbury rallied from a 27-7 4th quarter deficit to beat Frostburg State 28-27 to clinch the NJAC.
So, Wesley has to hope it earns one of the six available at-large bids when the playoff field is announced Sunday at 6 pm.
Wesley was ranked number one in the NCAA East region rankings this week, suggesting their chances of getting in are strong.
