Mispillion Art League opens online shop

The Mispillion Art League (MAL) in Milford now offers an online shopping website.

Many arts organizations continue to struggle financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but one serving Kent and Sussex Counties is trying something new to help artists make some money.

The Mispillion Art League (MAL) in Milford has opened a brand new online shopping website

“You know having to shut down and having our classes canceled - because we like many others - were not prepared for anything like this. And so [we were] scrounging and trying to learn and gather whatever technologies we needed," said MAL's operations manager Sonja Frey. "Of course no one could come in. So we had artwork on the walls that no one could see.”

Frey says the online shop offers a chance to not only see, but to purchase that artworlk and more. It features an estimated 100 to 150 artists, with work ranging from crochet wearables, glass sculptures to oil and pastel paintings.

“It’s just gotten up and running; so there’s still work to be done. Because of COVID and everything that happened and may happen again in the future, it was an option that we wanted to try to keep our artists' artwork out in the public so that people can see what wonderful things we make here.”

Frey hopes Delawareans will visit the website often to shop for themselves, and to purchase gifts for family and friends in other states.

She notes that the site does not offer shipping yet, so purchases must be picked up at MAL on Walnut Street in Milford.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
