Newark closes its municipal building over COVID concerns

The City of Newark is closing down its municipal building starting Tuesday. It will stay closed through January 19th.The city cites the rising cases of coronavirus in the area. In a release it called the move a “necessary step to ensure the health and safety of [city] staff.”

Walk-in services at the building are suspended until further notice. Payments to the city can be made online or over the phone.

Alderman Court will close December 3rd and all appearances will be rescheduled with notices submitted by mail.

Newark City Council and other public meetings will continue to convene online.

And the Main Street Alfresco outdoor dining event scheduled for this Wednesday is cancelled.

The Newark Police Department remains open.
