First State sees first cases of 2017-2018 flu season

Delaware Public Media

Flu season is underway in the First State.

Six Delawareans have been diagnosed with the flu this month. They include three people in New Castle County and three Kent County residents.

Delaware's Division of Public Health says they are the first lab-confirmed cases of this flu season.

Three of the six cases were hospitalized due to underlying health conditions.

The Division of Public Health recommends all Delawareans who are at least six month old to get their flu shot.

Delaware saw close to 5,000 confirmed flu cases last year. Fifteen Delaware residents died from the flu during the 2016- 2017 flu season.
