Wilmington City Council approves Salesianum lease deal for Baynard Stadium

Oct 19, 2018

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki says the renovations to Baynard Stadium and Eden Park are moving forward.

A 50-year lease agreement between Salesianum School and the City for the Baynard Stadium athletic complex was approved by City Council Thursday.

Salesianum has agreed to invest $15 to 20 million in the facility.

The school plans a complete overhaul of Baynard— installing a new track and turf field and building new bleachers, locker rooms and a community meeting space.

Other schools and youth groups will still be allowed to use the stadium. According to city officials, the agreement guarantees non-Salesianum users a minimum of 360 hours of use a year. There will be a public calendar.

Purzycki said in a statement that Salesianum’s “care and concern for our City will benefit all of our citizens for years to come.”

The City plans to put roughly $2.4 million of renovations into Eden Park in south Wilmington. Planned improvements include a full-size turf field, new scoreboard, and recoating of the three park pools.
