State Rep. Bentz is stepping down next year

Aug 24, 2021

State Rep. David Bentz announced he won’t seek re-election next year.

He says he is stepping down after the end of the upcoming legislative session to spend more time with family.

Bentz has represented the Christiana area since 2015, putting a lot of his focus on improving the state’s healthcare system.

In a statement, Bentz says one of his biggest accomplishments was codifying telehealth services statewide, after seeing its use explode during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He says he was also proud to work on gun violence prevention, particularly highlighting the Beau Biden Gun Violence Prevention Act.

This year, Bentz spearheaded the effort to get a constitutional amendment allowing no-excuse absentee voting past the finish line. But that amendment failed without Republican support.

He’ll have one more chance to get that passed next year before the entire process starts over again.
