Free 'Hiking Through History' map now available

The Brandywine Conservancy in Chadds Ford, PA is offering a new way for people to engage with the region’s history.

The Conservancy released a new map that highlights the American Revolutionary War history that surounds us.

“This is a folded map that is available to the public. And it is an interesting overlay of different features in the Brandywine Valley region and beyond (Delaware Valley), that highlights regional trails and also the parks and preserves in the area, overtop the layer of it shows the battles that occurred during the Battle of Brandywine,”  said Sheila Fleming, manager for municipal assistance at the Brandywine Conservancy.

She says this “Hiking Through History” map also includes troop movements in the area throughout 1777.

We wanted really to provide a tool for residents here and for visitors that they could use to experience the recreational opportunities in the Brandywine and Delaware Valley regions, while reliving the boots-on-the-ground history of the Philadelphia Campaign of 1777,” said Fleming.

Free copies of the map can be picked up inside the Brandywine River Museum of Art’s main lobby entrance. And they hope to make copies available at area Visitor Centers soon.
