Democrats dominate in Kent County Levy Court races

Democrats swept the Kent County Levy Court races Tuesday night.

Incumbent Democrats Allan Angel and George “Jody” Sweeny each held onto their seats in the Third and Fifth districts. Both candidates defeated their Republican challengers by double digit margins.

The newest edition to the court is former Smyrna Mayor Joanne Masten. She also won big in her District 1 race, defeating Republican Doug Chervenak by 24 percentage points.

“My number one priority is to continue to work with the Kent Economic Partnership, the Greater Kent Committee and the DPP to bring businesses to Kent County--good paying jobs with benefits,” said Matsen.

Masten takes over for retiring Commissioner Brooks Banta.

Banta has served as Levy Court President since 1996.
