A growing COVID-19 outbreak is forcing the Colonial School District to temporarily move all of its schools back to virtual learning.
The switch is immediate – starting Monday.
It comes after the district learned Sunday that multiple individuals across several district buildings tested positive for COVID-19. Those cases are on top of the confirmed cases and a presumed positive it announced Friday involving four schools, including William Penn High School.
"This decision was not made lightly and we understand that this may cause disruption and frustration," read a message posted by district officials Sunday. "We will continue to keep the safety and well-being of our students and staff at the forefront of all of our decisions at all times,"
Colonial School District already planned to have all students work remotely Thanksgiving week, the week of Nov. 23.
It plans to resume hybrid learning on Nov. 30.
District officials ask families to contact their school principal if they have a student that tests positive during the two-week virtual learning period.
