Sen. Carper and the USS Delaware

The fast-attack nuclear submarine USS Delaware was set to be commissioned in Wilmington early next month.

That April 4th event was postponed Thursday when the Secretary of the Defense issued a travel ban for active-duty personnel for the next sixty days in response to health concerns related to novel coronavirus.

But that’s not dimming Delaware’s senior Sen. Tom Carper enthusiasm about the sub bringing The First State’s name back to the fleet.   Delaware Public Media’s Nick Ciolino sat down with Carper before the commissioning event was cancelled to talk about how the boat came to bear the “Delaware” moniker.
