'No Babies Wet Behind Diaper Drive' continues its effort to fill a need

The Rosa Health Center in Georgetown, which provides healthcare and other services to Sussex County mothers - is once again this year getting a helping hand from the community.

A diaper drive to benefit The Rosa Health Center in Georgetown is now in its seventh year.

The “No Babies Wet Behind Diaper Drive” started in 2013.  It was created and organized by Lisa Prestipino, the owner of Apple Electric in Rehoboth Beach.

“We are a local organization and we’re trying to get some diapers for local babies," said Prestipino. "It’s a great, cold time of year - right after Christmas - and there’s a great need in this area for diapers.”

Prestipino says she was working with Toys for Tots when the idea for a diaper drive came to mind

“And I went over to Georgetown and asked Sister Rosa (a Carmelite Nun) what she needed for her babies in the way of toys. And she told me that while her babies loved toys but unfortunately they didn’t even have diapers," said Prestipino. "So it got me thinking and I said well, maybe we could have a happy hour and invite some friends and we’ll raise some diapers that way.”

Prestipino says the drive then evolved into stuffing a bus with diapers; the first year, 10,000 packs of diapers were collected. This year, Prestipino hopes to collect 50,000 packs.

Prestipino says new to this year’s diaper drive is “Kudos For A Cause” with help from Schell Brothers and their Project Kudos Bus.

She says each $1 donation to place a “Kudos” sticker on the bus parked at Apple Electric on Route 24 in Rehoboth Beach will be donated to the Rosa Health Center.

Diapers can be dropped off at Apple Electric through February 29, 2020 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
