Blood Bank of Delmarva's Holiday Hope blood drive runs through Jan.

The Blood Bank of Delmarva’s Holiday Hope campaign is underway.";

With Christmas right around the corner, the Blood Bank of Delmarva is encouraging people to give the gift of blood.

The Blood Bank of Delmarva is in the midst of its Holiday Hope campaign.

“The Holiday Hope donor program at the Blood Bank of Delmarva is all about reminding folks that the need for blood is constant. We’re enjoying the holidays; we’re all going to have time off with our families and friends, enjoy presents under the tree and the whole nine yards But the need for blood doesn’t take a holiday,” said marketing communication specialist for the Blood Bank of Delmarva Tony Prado.

He explains that the campaign is offering some extra reasons to give now.

“We try to incentive the blood donation process; we have a few fun giveaways. A couple of days, we’ll be giving out t-shirts," said Prado. "We also have the grand prize - which is anyone donating in the month of December and the month of January, will automatically be entered to win a trip for two to sunny Cancun, Mexico.”

Prado notes those with O negative and B negative blood types are needed most. O negative is the universal blood type and B negative is a particularly rare blood type.

He says it takes 350 donors per day to supply the 19 local hospitals throughout the Delmarva Peninsula with the blood they need for patients.

Appointments to donate blood can be made by calling 1-888-8-BLOOD-8. Appointments to donate blood can also be made online here.

The Holiday Hope campaigns runs through January 2020.
