Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety is kicking off a holiday awareness campaign reminding Delawareans of safe driving and safe pedestrian habits.

The new Safe Family Holiday Campaign launches on Wednesday, November 27, and runs through January 1. It coincides with the Office of Highway Safety’s holiday traffic enforcement period, which includes police checkpoints.

The campaign is teaming up with restaurants and businesses to educate Delawareans about the dangers associated with holiday driving to reduce crashes and fatalities on the roadways.

Office of Highway Safety director Kim Chesser says it will use media, social media and grassroots efforts to get its message out.

"It's important for all of us to remember to slow down, drive sober, walk smart, put the phone down and buckle up let's make sure we get where we're going safely so we can enjoy the holiday season," said Chesser.

The Office of Highway Safety is also reactivating its SoberLift program partnership with Lyft this Thanksgiving weekend. SoberLift starts on Wednesday at 3 p.m., and runs through Sunday December 1, at 2 a.m.

SoberLift will run from Wednesday November 27th at 3 p.m. through Sunday December 1st at 2 a.m. The program provides free Lyft vouchers, at a maximum of 15 dollars, for those want a safe ride after drinking too much.

John Yeomans is the Chief of the Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement, and he says this program has been highly successful.

"For the first time SoberLift will be a statewide initiative we've seen success with this program when it was conducted in other counties it just makes good sense to offer people an option literally through a phone application as opposed to driving you can contact Lyft and get a ride to your designation," said Yeomans.

You can get free Lyft vouchers with a maximum value of $15 by texting “SOBERLIFT” to 99000 to redeem the discount code.
