Wilmington is holding its annual Independence Day festivities again this year.

The July 4th celebrations will begin at 2pm Thursday along Wilmington’s Christina Riverfront.

The free event will stretch from Tubman-Garrett park to the Constitution Yards beer garden. It will feature local bands, tours of the Kalmar Nyckel, a trackless train and vendors selling food including crabs and ice cream.

Wilmington Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz says there will be a new, family-friendly feature.

“All of the games that we will have lined up along Rosa Parks Drive will be a new feature and they will be free,” she said. “We will give tickets out to people who come to the festival and they can go over and enjoy all of the free games.”

Betz says the Delaware Symphony Orchestra will play space-inspired music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon walk as well as some July 4th favorites. “The finale of the Symphony’s concert will be the 1812 Overture— and the finale of the overture will be enhanced by the ringing of Bells of Remembrance.”

The event ends with fireworks at 9:30 P.M.
