Community preparedness workshop for seniors and people with disabilities coming to Dover

A Community Preparedness Workshop for seniors and people with disabilities is coming to Dover next month.

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency’s Delaware Citizen Corps, is teaming up with Independent Resources, Inc., the Modern Maturity Center and the Division of Public Health on the April 16th workshop at the Modern Maturity Center.

Delaware Citizens Corps program director Mei Johnson says their goal is to make sure everyone understands the need to be prepared.

“It is incredibly important for folks to think about preparedness ahead of time so when an event happens they already know what they need to do, where they need to go, everything they need to take with them. It brings them peace of mind and it also alleviates a lot of the pressure on our already thinly-stretched first responders,” Johnson said.

Johnson says trainers from the Office of Preparedness and Delaware Citizen Corps and a specialist from the Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative will be on hand, There will also be interactive components, helping participants learn how to make a plan, create a kit and learn about fire safety.

The Modern Maturity Center is handling sign-ups. The deadline to do so is April 2.
