Former Vaughn inmate plans Saturday rally

A former Vaughn inmate is arranging a rally outside of the Smyrna correctional center Saturday morning at 11.

Michael Bartley spent 12 years in Vaughn Correctional Center, and was released in January 2015.

He says tomorrow’s rally is focused on increasing quality of life for inmates.

“We’re coming down with a lot of mothers and concerned citizens to be heard. Nothing outrageous, we’re just coming to be seen and heard," Bartley said.

Bartley calls the prison “desolate” and says he witnessed many injustices while incarcerated.

He’s calling for additional educational resources, job training programs and drug treatment opportunities to help inmates improve themselves.

Bartley says Delaware should be ahead of the curve when it comes to prison reform, not behind it.
