Delaware Public Media

New Castle County Executive-elect Matt Meyer will start his administration with an interim county police chief.

Lieutenant Colonel Vaughn Bond, Jr. to step into the post when Meyer takes office Jan. 3rd, replacing Tom Gordon.

Meyer tapped Lt. Col. Bond to replace current Chief of Police Elmer Setting.  Setting recently announced he’s retiring and timed his departure with the change in administrations.

Lt. Col Bond has been Deputy County Police chief since July and has been with county police since 1991.   He’s the first African American to lead the New Castle County police.

A Meyer spokesman says no timeline has been set for hiring a permanent police chief, and would not indicate one way or another if Lt. Col. Bond will be among those considered for the job.
