More licensing locations available for Delaware dog owners

Cristi Dawson

Delaware dog owners now have more sites to choose from to license their pets.

The Office of Animal Welfare has added three retail locations for dog owners who want to purchase licenses in Kent and Sussex County.

They include Yarn and Bone Pet Supply Store in Camden, and Pet Stop in Fenwick Island and Millville.

"So this was an effort to make it more convenient for people that they have many options to get their dog licensed," said Christina Motoyoshi, the deputy director for the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare. "You know, conversely there are people that don’t want to have to go running around for a dog license and they can just do it right from their home, either by mailing in an application or doing it online."

As locations used to only be available in New Castle County, Motoyoshi said the office was receiving complaints from people who lived in Kent and Sussex County that there was not somewhere nearby they could go to purchase a license. The Office of Animal Welfare even created an online registration system in January 2016, hoping to make it easier for dog owners.

Licenses cost $10 per year for neutered dogs and $15 per year for un-neutered dogs.

Owners must provide proof of vaccinations in order to obtain a license.
