Powerball jackpot is now biggest in lottery history

Delaware Public Media

There was no winner in Wednesday's Powerball drawing.

That mean’s Saturday’s jackpot will be the biggest lottery prize in U.S history.

The current jackpot stands at $700 million, already up from the $675 million officials announced after no one matched last night's winning numbers - 2, 11, 47, 62, 63 and the red Powerball 17.   And officials expect it to grow even higher before the weekend.

The game has not had a winner since November 4th.

Powerball is played in 44 states – including Delaware - as well as the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Delaware has not had a Powerball winner since May 2013 when an anonymous ticket holder split a $50 million jackpot.

The odds of matching all six Powerball numbers in Saturday’s drawing is 1 in 292.2 million.

The previous largest lottery prize was a Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million in 2012.
