Dover AFB to conduct annual major response drill this week

An Oct. 2010 major response exercise at Dover AFB simulated a radioactive materials leak after a hard landing.

Dover Air Force Base will test its anti-terrorism and major response capabilities with a four-day drill this week, starting Tuesday.

Base spokeswoman Capt. Sarah Bergstein says scenarios for the drill can include anything from a suspicious package, to an active shooter or a vehicle accident.

The drill is an annual exercise, and she doesn't know yet what this year's scenarios will be. But she says neighbors won't hear any extra sirens or see more aircraft than normal.

There may be some traffic delays at the base's main and north gates during the drill, as well as more emergency vehicles on the installation.

Bergstein says she expects local agencies, like Dover Police, may be involved in this week's exercises, too. The drill will last through Friday.
