No arrests as investigation of DSU campus shooting continues

Delaware Public Media

Delaware State University officials say there are still no arrests in the two shootings that occurred on and around school’s Dover campus over the weekend.

Three people were shot on campus shortly after 8 pm Saturday night during the annual DSU Greek Cookout - a University-sanctioned student event.  Another shooting occurred early Sunday morning at University Courtyard, the school’s student-housing complex just off campus.   There were no injuries in that second incident.

School officials said Sunday all three victims in the campus shooting remain at Kent General Hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.  None of them have been identified, but in a statement Sunday afternoon school president Harry Williams said they are not students at the school.

DSU campus police is still actively investigating both incidents with assistance from Dover Police, Delaware State Police and other agencies.  And Williams says university is doing everything  necessary to ensure safety.

"The safety and security of all our students, faculty and staff are a priority and, as such, we are and will continue to do those things to make this a safe environment to study, live, and work. The DSU Police Department remains on full alert and continues to patrol the entire campus. We also have 24 hour identification checks in place and only one entrance open.  Along with our great team of public safety professionals, we believe that the campus and its residents are safe," said Williams in his Sunday statement.

Williams adds he is confident it will remain  as the spring semester winds down and the school’s May 17th commencement approaches.

Delaware State University will resume normal operation and classes Monday.
