Hamlin wins first race in Dover's NASCAR Cup Series doubleheader

Delaware Public Media

Denny Hamlin finally found a way to tame the Monster Mile.

Hamlin earned his first career Cup Series win at Dover International Speedway, taking Saturday's "Drydene 311" - the first half of a Cup Series doubleheader in Dover this weekend.

Hamlin passed Martin Truex Jr. with 8 laps to go to earn the checkered flag, and his sixth victory this season.

"There’s been no year that’s been like this," Hamlin said. "We’re rolling right now and we’re rolling at tracks that we’re not typically great at."

Truex finished second, Kyle Busch ran third and points leader Kevin Harvick was fourth.

The second race in this weekend's NASCAR Cup series doubleheader is Sunday at 4 p.m.  It's also called the "Drydene 311."
