Dover's Brengle posts first round Wimbledon win

Dover’s Madison Brengle pulled off an upset win in the first at Wimbledon Monday.

Brengle defeated Serbia's Aleksandra Krunic in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, to advance at the year’s third Grand Slam event.  Krunic is ranked 39th in the world.

The 28-year-old Brengle is trying to get back on track after falling out of the women’s top 100 back in May.  She had been in the top 100 for the past four-plus years – reaching a high of 35th in 2015.  She’s currently ranked 108 and coming off an injury that kept her out of the French Open.

Brengle faces Camila Georgi in round two tomorrow, looking to reach the third round at Wimbledon for a second straight year.
