Former University of Delaware star Elena Delle Donne is on the shortlist to make this summer’s U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team.
Delle Donne, who was named the WNBA MVP last season playing for the Chicago Sky, is one of 25 finalists chosen by the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Player Selection Committee. Most of the finalists are expected to participate in a mini-camp February 21st to 23rd at the University of Connecticut.
The committee will settle on a final 12-person roster later this year. Those 12 players will represent the U.S. at the Summer Games in Rio this August as the United States looks for a sixth consecutive gold medal in women’s basketball.
Delle Donne has yet to play on an Olympic team. She did play on the U.S National Team last October during its European tour, helping the U.S. put together a 4-0 record against a trio of European professional clubs and the Italian National Team.
